MADISON—Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW) today announced Cheri Dubiel as its Executive Director starting January 9, 2017.
Dubiel has served as CSW Associate Director for six years, where she’s led the organization’s fundraising efforts for social and environmental justice causes in Wisconsin. In addition to her work with CSW, she brings extensive experience with local advocacy movements through past leadership roles with the Dane County Rape Crisis Center, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
“Equity and justice are the core values of Community Shares of Wisconsin and unite our coalition of 66 member nonprofits,” said Emily Dickmann, CSW Board President. “Cheri not only shares these values, she has dedicated her career to advancing them in our community. She brings unparalleled knowledge, creativity, and passion to this role and we are thrilled to have her leading our organization.”
For over 45 years, Community Shares of Wisconsin’s members have been on the forefront of the social and environmental justice movement in Wisconsin, and as the oldest social justice fund in the country, CSW fuels their efforts through fundraising, training, and collaboration. As CSW Associate Director Dubiel has been instrumental to the success of The Big Share, CSW’s online giving day, which raised over $500,000 over the past two years.
“Philanthropy is a joyful experience that allows people to make a difference for the causes they care about. And Community Shares makes giving accessible to all—regardless of their capacity,” said Dubiel. “It’s an honor to lead an organization that helps connect so many people to the hopes and dreams they have for their community.”
Dubiel takes over for longtime CSW Executive Director Crystel Anders, who earlier this year announced she would be stepping away from the organization to pursue new opportunities.
“Cheri has demonstrated incredible leadership over her many years with CSW,” said Anders. “Her innovative ideas and ability to build strong partnerships will be a huge asset to CSW and our members as they look to the future. There is much to be done, but together our members and donors show that real change is possible.”
