ABC for Health met “Becky” and “Brian” in the hospital after the birth of their son. While in a neonatal intensive care unit, the baby was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a diagnosis they had now received for each of their children. Both parents worked, but the health insurance offered didn’t cover the extensive medical services the children required. The family applied for Medicaid coverage through the state, but received a denial.
ABC successfully challenged the insurance denial by proving the state had incorrectly calculated the household income and misapplied the Medicaid deductible rule. ABC then worked with the family’s doctor, the medical equipment provider, and the pharmacy to ensure the children received the care, breathing devices, and medications prescribed.
Brian wrote to ABC, “You will never know what your help means to us. You saved our family. We are forever indebted to you.”
