Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW), Wisconsin Family Ties (both CSW member groups), and other disability groups advocated successfully for passage of a new Wisconsin law restricting seclusion and restraint for behaviorally challenged children in schools.
DRW also successfully advocated with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections to improve the treatment of veterans with mental illness (particularly post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD) who are in prisons and jails. These improvements include:
• Revising the intake screening form regarding PTSD
• Training the Department psychologists in prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD
• Improving coordination between the VA and the Department’s mental health professionals
