Disability Rights Wisconsin logoDisability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) worked with an eighth grader who, due to mental health issues and behavioral challenges in school, was being restricted to an alternative site offering no contact with other students his age. DRW helped the family advocate for return to school and negotiated a plan in which the student started attending a regular public high school in ninth grade—his time was split between regular education and special education settings. Due to DRW’s efforts, the school is now doing some special training regarding mental health issues.
