Julie is lucky to be a survivor working with End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin—her partner was charged with first-degree intentional attempted homicide, sentenced to 22 years in prison. Yet she found herself back in family court, trying to keep her boys, who saw many attacks on Julie, from having contact with her former partner. Julie said, “We need more programs out there for attorneys to represent women in domestic violence cases after the crisis response. Even after a woman is safe, she has to fight through the court system to ensure that her children are safe from the abuser too.”
