Paul and Aaron have been foster parents to two boys over the years. In 2008 they adopted their first foster son, and they’re in the process of adopting their second foster child.
Because Aaron and Paul are a same-sex couple, only one of them can legally adopt in the state of Wisconsin. Paul is the legal parent; Aaron, while sharing all parenting, is relegated to being the legal guardian, a status that offers significantly fewer protections. If Paul should die while the boys are still minors, they will be left without a legal parent.
Fair Wisconsin Education Fund is committed to addressing this serious issue for so many families around Wisconsin by educating about the need for adoption reform.
