Edgewater Plant
Recently the Sierra Club’s legal and grassroots activism to move beyond coal prompted several Wisconsin utilities to announce retirement plans for aging coal plants. Dairyland’s Alma plant will end coal-burning at 3 of 6 units, Alliant Energy’s Nelson Dewey plant in Cassville will be retired, as will some of Edgewood’s coal boilers in Sheboygan.

The biggest victory of last year, however, was secured with the Cleaner Valley Coalition, whose constant pressure prompted We Energies to announce their plan to stop burning coal at Milwaukee’s Valley plant. This move will clean up the air for over 24,000 residents living within a mile of the plant.
