Last fall the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin Education Network placed trained volunteer election observers in 493 polling places to monitor the elections—and they made a difference. In Lac du Flambeau, a young tribal member discovered at the polls that his driver’s license had an old address, and he had no other documentation. The League observer looked up the phone number for the tribal office, found that the voter could go there to get the needed document, and the young man could cast his ballot.
