Madison Audubon Society spoke out against a proposed bill in the legislature to open a hunting season on sandhill cranes in Wisconsin. Here were some of their reasons:
- There is no evidence that the population needs managing
- A fall hunting season would have little impact on crop damage from cranes
- Whooping cranes in mixed flocks could be accidentally shot
