Old miltary ammunition siteCitizens for Safe Water Around Badger has set a number of national precedents related to the clean-up of former Army ammunition sites. In addition, Madison Audubon Society (MAS) joined CSWAB and others in offering input to the DNR about the 7,354-acre Badger plant site, now decommissioned. The groups recommended that:
• The property should be managed as a whole, not divided into different management areas
• Management for grassland and scrubland should be the primary focus, to protect imperiled wildlife
• Any recreational use should be non-motorized and low-impact
• Ammunition and fishing tackle used at Badger should be nontoxic
