Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) points out that a State law was passed last session making it illegal to require a community to disinfect its public drinking water supplies. No scientific data supported such a law.
In fact, scientific studies showed people in Wisconsin are increasingly sickened by viruses from drinking water that wasn’t disinfected. And the 800,000 private wells in rural Wisconsin are increasingly polluted by uncontrolled farm runoff, including animal waste.
MEA provides legal services to the citizens willing to stand up to polluters when the legislators don’t seem willing to do so. With the burdens of enforcement on the families most harmed by pollution, MEA can step in to help.
