1000 Friends of Wisconsin: working with towns to stop highways that threaten farmland

Koshkongong Town Hall1000 Friends of Wisconsin worked with people in the Town of Koshkonong to stop the construction of a questionable highway project (U.S. Highway 12 bypass around Fort Atkinson). The town argued that the road:
• Was not needed
• Would destroy hundreds of acres of productive farmland
It would also destroy acres of high-quality wetlands in the Fort Atkinson area.

When 1000 Friends of Wisconsin staff spoke to the town board and other concerned citizens, they agreed to collect more than 1000 petitions to present to the governor. The citizens prevailed, and the project was halted.
