Madison, WI – On Tuesday, March 2, Madison-based nonprofit groups will participate in The Big Share®. Visit TheBigShare.org for details.
“Recognizing that the COVID crisis is not over and the Black Lives Matter movement continues to teach us how we can do more for racial justice, it’s more important than ever to support groups that work for equality and systemic change,” said Executive Director Cheri Dubiel.
Events this year will focus on virtual and donor-led experiences. On Monday, March 1, The Big Share Kickoff will feature Drag Bingo and fundraising challenges from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. During the Super Power Hour, sponsored by Madison Gas and Electric and Living in Balance, the nonprofit that raises the top dollars and the nonprofit with the most donors will each be awarded a $1,500 bonus.
On Tuesday, March 2, The Big Share Live will stream from 6 am to 9 pm on the campaign’s website and Community Shares’ Facebook page. Featured events include a morning workout with Badger Fitness, a poetry reading by Madison Poet Laureate Angela Trudell Vasquez, musical performances, cooking demos, and check presentations.
Community members will find it easy and fun to donate to their favorite groups. Visit thebigshare.org to search for groups by name or by issue area. Donate to one group, multiple groups, or set up your own fundraising page to support an organization or the whole campaign. Donations can also be made to Community Shares of Wisconsin.
Community Shares of Wisconsin welcomes three new member groups participating in The Big Share for the first time. Urban Triage, Natural Circles of Support and Inspire Barber College were recognized as Inspiring Voices organizations by Community Shares in 2020. Summit Credit Union issued each group a $500 matching challenge to support their fundraising goals.
“As we head into Community Shares’ 50th anniversary year, Wisconsinites can look to Community Shares of Wisconsin as a hub for the causes they care about most,” said Dubiel. “Whether it’s an environmental group that has worked to protect our climate since the first Earth Day or grassroots, racial justice groups mobilizing youth power through social media, we invite you to join us in taking action for justice through The Big Share.”
The Big Share’s 2021 presenting sponsor is Madison Community Foundation. Media sponsors are: News 3 Now, Triple MMM 105.5, and Madison 365.
Since 1971, Community Shares of Wisconsin and its members have worked together to advance social justice and protect the environment in Wisconsin. Together they envision a future where people come together to ensure every member of their community is safe, healthy, and able to thrive.
