Knowing that justice issues extend to the environment that we all depend on, Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice (WNPJ) has been educating people about the range of mining activities in our state. There has been a recent explosion of sand mines in central and southwest Wisconsin. Tons of sand are exported from Wisconsin each day, for use in hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) elsewhere to extract natural gas.
WNPJ also helped launch Madison Action for Mining Alternatives. This group builds coalitions between environmental organizations and Native American leaders.
