Oksana and Wisconsin LiteracyOksana came to Wisconsin from Ukraine with her husband and two daughters six years ago. She began studying English as a second language at Literacy Volunteers-Chippewa Valley in Eau Claire. She was involved in both their family literacy program and their one-to-one tutoring program.

Before graduating from Chippewa Valley Technical College’s Dental Hygienist Program, she made the President’s List four times. Oksana recently passed the Test of English as a Foreign Language requirement for entrance into Marquette University’s School of Dentistry—and she has become a U.S. citizen.

Wisconsin Literacy is a coalition of literacy providers throughout the state. Wisconsin Literacy provides support, resource development, trainings, and advocacy so that literacy programs statewide can provide high-quality training—and can help bring about success stories like Oksana’s.
