Wisconsin WBergstrom Wetlandsetlands Association led the way last year in unsuccessful efforts to discourage the state legislature from passing a piece of private legislation now referred to as the “Bergstrom wetland exemption bill.”  The highly controversial bill exempted a specific piece of land—proposed for development—from state wetland permit requirements.

For decades, state law has given people, nonprofits, and businesses the option to seek an objective administrative review of state agency decisions, but that option was overridden here.  For those who want to learn more, WWA staff created a brief case study outlining the precedent-setting implications of this case.

Wisconsin Wetlands regularly responds to many requests for help from dozens of Wisconsin communities asking about wetland issues.
